After a few months running in, and with the 3 other ANLR steamers available for traffic, I have decided it is time to do the full cosmetic job on Urien, my Roundhouse Lady Anne. Here is a list of some of the alterations i'll be making
Coal rails painted black
Smokebox painted matt black
add safety valve bonnet (done)
paint steps on loco black
make and fix on lamp bracket on smokebox
paint rear lamp brackets black
Paint cab interior cream
paint tank fillers black, and possibly also tank tops
add strips of brass down the side of the tanks to hide gap at the back
paint buffer heads black
Line loco, with black paint and a colour of trimline (red or yellow/straw)
fit wooden cab floor
There are a couple of other mods I may do, but I would like to have the engine in traffic as soon as possible
The loco is already stripped, 4 screws had the body off, and another 3 removed had the smokebox off
The body, before the mods
I have already started with the mods, here is the first new bit fitted
The combination lever, crosshead and union link supplied by Roundhouse
I will keep you updated with how this progresses, and once it's done, i'll see if I have enough confidence to try some cosmetic mods on Taliesin... _________________ The Killer Bunny's on the loco - Don't Panic!

Do the matt black paint at least - it make a hell of a lot of difference! _________________ Brian L Dominic

I think you should paint it with an egg shell finish, cos you've got enough of 'em _________________ 'Travel On The Talyllyn Yearly' or 'TOTTY' campaign

We'll see, I would quite like to paint Tal's smokebox matt black
Meanwhile, I have fitted the lamp bracket to Urien's smokebox, and also painted the rear coal rail black.

Tin foil can count as a shell, you could have a silver smokebox, then you'd have to fit oil tanks as it would generally appear to be an oil fired loco then. _________________ Cheers,

I don't think so, those silver smokeboxes were so ugly!!! Though I think the only thing I would have to do to convert the engine to oil fireing is remove the coal load _________________ The Killer Bunny's on the loco - Don't Panic!

lol he was talking of bringing bluebottle... I look forward to whatever you have in mind for it
Definatly no Urien though, the coal rails have been painted but an attempt to paint the smokebox matt black went badly wrong as the can was virtually out of propellent and the results were very blobby. Luckily I managed to strip off the worst of it. The cab interior is next on the list to be done. I'll post pics when it's done. _________________ The Killer Bunny's on the loco - Don't Panic!

Well despite a busy few days (there's been a change of secretery for the North West area group of the association of 16mm modellers, and guess who PTLRsam and PTLRcecil picked ) I have been carrying on with detailing Urien, and I now have a couple of pics of progress
The coal rails for the tank top bunkers are now black, as are the coal rails for the rear bunker, the paint is railmatch "coal black"
The cab interior, painted with phoenix GWR dull coach cream. The lower half of the back sheet will be painted black at some point.
Next up is painting the steps on the loco black, then the tank fillers before the lining. The smokebox needs re painting as well after the problem with the almost empty spray can. _________________ The Killer Bunny's on the loco - Don't Panic!

Nice work, I notice the bunker is currently off, will it re enter service without this? As I think it'd look nice and quite different. _________________ Cheers,

Well it would be different, were it not for the fact that LMSjool's Lady Anne "David William" is running without its bunker. I'm intending on keeping it for the time being, certainly I will line it but I may also line the backsheet so that I can run without if I want. _________________ The Killer Bunny's on the loco - Don't Panic!
