NO! I can't/dad couldn't FIT IN the Minis!!! He had one to rally for a few weeks and said it was aweful, and jokes about taking the front seats out and sitting in the back!

Oh, and don't be embarrassed, I'd love to have a job like yours! And I think most of the other older guys are just scared to say!!

I had a mini and loved driving it but i did think about taking the back seats out and moving the front ones back! (i am 6'1!)
it made driving for more than 2 hours "fun"!
What jobs to do?
Set of bucket seats in the front and have 'em up against the back seats- loads of room in the front then.

That looks like a very cool place to work Pete. Proper engineering apprentiships around "home" i.e. Gloucestershire are very thin on the ground- most are just sort of grease monkey jobs that I don't want to spend the rest of my life doing. Few big firms in Brizzle but they usually want degrees.

Anyway, uni is great fun and I'm really glad I went, sod the debt!

I was going to be a neurologicle engineer but discovered I was squeemish!

Don't dis the Cortina. At least it's better than an Austin princess. I looked at pictures & the first few were nice but then we moved on to British Leyland, Oh dear what happened there! Just continuous shades of brown & beige then the interior is very brown. I love the Cortina because it was Britain's best selling car & it was the predecessor of the Sierra which was very common when it was released. I don't want the Capri though

We had a new Mini in 1973 - I once drove from Chipping Sodbury to Perth in Scotland in a day......... Both our backs were hurting by the time we got there!

Had to put new sills on for the first MOT at 3 years old..........

Happy Days!

enjoying it so far. making loads of new m8s is the best bit.

I'm suprised there havent been too many train related jobs here. Mind you i suppose you dont want your hobby and your work to both be the same!

I've just started a degree in history at Southampton University. My main thoughts in terms of career paths have been either something in journalism (railway journalism if at all possible), or something in museums (railway museums, if at all possible). This is based mainly on the fact that I've done work experience placements at Steam Railway magazine and the NRM, and thoroughly enjoyed them both!

I always wanted to be a steam engine driver on the Western Region, then as I got closer to leaving school, all the steam loco's disappeared.  So I trained as an automechanic but really wanted to be a pirate radio DJ. I applied to two stations for a job, but was turned down due to my young age. After 4 years at a Ford dealer, most of the pirate stations had been closed down.  I worked nights as a DJ for a mobile discotheque and days as a mechanic and then later,  full time as a DJ with a mobile disco based in Bristol and a couple of discotheques in the SW. At some point I offered international DJ work, and eventually ended up where I now reside. Ironically 2 days before I permanently moved to Denmark (1975) I was offered a job on Radio Caroline, which I had to very reluctantly,  turn down

And the point of all this.....I missed both jobs of my dreams...but I still want to be a steam loco driver !
the job I always wanted
The job I wanted was to be a Log Fettler and Polisher with the Cornish Submerged Log and Crate Company but I had a fear of trees, so I became a Lumberjack..killl the trees!!!!!!!

Eventualy I became a Wooden Coat Hanger maker spending hours finding the right branches to make the hangers....the angle is critical, but some idiot gave out development grants and the wire hanger company moved in and that was it..redundant...until I became a resitance fighter with the Wooden Hanger Organisation.

My dream car I have...its a 1986 Suzuki Alto 3 cylinder and 54bhp
small enough to nick any tight space at Tescos on a Saturday from the Chelsea Tractors
