What would you guys like to do for a job?
I want to be a Graphics designer (yes I was bored again) |

Erm, not too sure really, I think working building proper big ships would be quite interesting (I think atleast 3 genereations of my family have worked for what was Vickers in Barrow-in-Furness), I like the scale of the machinery.
There is so much variety out there that makeing a choice of dream job is hard. |

And me, final year now.
Don't know what I want to do other than I don't want to be stuck behind a desk. |

When I get a Ford Cortina (my dream car) I would faint if I had hit someone because the dent would cost a lot of money to fix Nah not really, I'd give him/her some money for the operation & continue being a happy man (despite the dent in the bonnet ). Right that's a one off, keep 'em comin' |

Originally I was just going to be a train driver on the Great Western Railway (because there used to be HST's there and I used to really like them, but that's another story)
Now, I'm working so i can hopefully get into Sheffield Hallam uni, and to a Railway Engineering course which you are sponsered by Network Rail and in theory, you get a bit of cash spare and you are guaranteed a job afterwards! |

I know, did consider going straight into a job but unless you are lucky or know the right people (Luck is my middle name, unfortunately my first name is Bad, and I don't know the right people either...) it's pretty difficult to get a decent engineering job without a degree.
Also, I wanted to put off growing up for as long as possible, and having a degree in something decent is always handy in later life, whatever I do in the short to medium term. Engineering is supposed to be one of the best to have, I know several engineering students who are now in finance 'cos they are better at problem solving than people with more relevant degrees. |

Personally, I disagree... it's because there isn't any going anyway!! I am considering going in by doing an apprenticeship, because when you come out from doing a degree, most come out with like £30k student debt, and I heard that currently, most won't be able to pay it of until they reach 40!!!
And going about Will's case with ships, funnily enough I'm thinking about applying for an apprenticeship at Pendennis Ship Yard (about 15minutes drive from me), who are world famous super yacht builders, and at the end of it, you are very likely to get a proper job there, building these:
'Steel', exploration style yacht.
This has just been shipped over from America in a container ship, because the company building it there went bust and no one else can do the job... it's the worlds LARGEST luxury sailing (no mast on it yet!) catamaran!

And at least, by doing an apprenticeship, you get to learn the skills you need (which is essential if you don't want to do a job behind a desk like me and Matt), and don't have a huge debt to pay off. And you have the engineering background for the future too, which may become more a little more valuable with the lack of skilled engineers etc.
And hancockshire, my dad used to rally Fords in the 70s, a Cortina in the early days, then moving on to Escorts... personally, my favourite non-Land Rover is the Escorts Mk 1 and 2 |

OOoo this is embarrassing your all thinking about what you want to do and I've been doing it for over 37 years........Old F**t
I left school at 16 did a 4 year apprenticeship with a local garage then went to work for Jack Barclay as a Rolls-Royce Tech, stayed for 10 years before moving over 'Ere' to California carried on with Royces until 3 years ago when I opened my own shop here at Infineon Raceway. I Restore old British cars mostly and modified Land Rovers, that is when I'm not sneaking away to watch racecars!!

Every nut and bolt on this one including all the body wood as well!!

NO! I can't/dad couldn't FIT IN the Minis!!! He had one to rally for a few weeks and said it was aweful, and jokes about taking the front seats out and sitting in the back!
Oh, and don't be embarrassed, I'd love to have a job like yours! And I think most of the other older guys are just scared to say!!
